Hard to sympathise with farmers

It is “hard to sympathise with farmers”, according to a contributor to the letters column of the Financial Times.

Cedric Hayes from Sale, Cheshire, bases his comments on the “despoilation of Britains countryside” and the “sad decline of wildlife”.

He says his experience of walking in the Pennines and Peak District has shown him that more and more land is being “improved” at the expense of wildlife.
