Heat monitor in automatic style

MONITOR dairy cows for heat activity automatically using a neck mounted Respactor, says supplier of the Cattle Code Activity Package, Jenisys.

The Respactor in the collar identifies the cow, and each time she walks through the loop ariel in the parlour, information is transferred to the information processor, explains Jenisys. Information is compared with that of other cows to eliminate increased activity of the whole group over the past 12 or 24 hours, and identify those on heat, says the company.

Information is then loaded onto the farm computer to produce an action list.

A pack of 30 Respactors with quick-release collars, a processor unit, PC software and identification loop costs £3795, plus delivery and installation (01608-662919).
