HF average up £250 on April

A £250 rise in the average price compared with last months sale spread optimism among vendors at the Border Counties Holstein Friesian Breeders Club fixture at Carlisle.

Top call of 1500gns came from Messrs Lawson, Blackburn, Lancs for Kellywell Astre Lana, a second calver out of a Steady Spipper dam that gave 8737kg in 343 days. She was consigned by D Robinson and Sons, Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Best heifer bid was 1350gns for Cumbria farmers R F and D Watkinsons Roosebeck Kirsty 2nd, a new calved Jogger daughter out of a 10,000kg Tab cow. Buyers were J W and D N Eve, Aspatria, Cumbria.

Bulls reached 1400gns.

AVERAGES: Five cows £1102; 28 heifers £1009 and six bulls £971.
