Hill farmers earn less than £1 a week
HILL farmers in Wales earned less than £1 a week last year – including subsidies, according to government figures released yesterday.
But the cattle and sheep producers were still better off than many lowland farmers, who traded at a loss during the period.
Farmers leaders are to hold crisis talks tomorrow with Alun Michael, the Welsh secretary. The statistics follow earlier government figures which showed that farm incomes fell by 48% thoughout Britain last year.
