Hoechst/Rhone-Poulenc merger due today


HOECHST and Rhone-Poulenc, the German and French pharmaceutical groups, are poised to announce the merger of their drugs and agrochemicals operations today (Tuesday). The deal will create the worlds largest life sciences company.

The combined turnover of the two companies is about $20bn.

It will be re-christened Aventis.
