Hunt ban ‘as unfair as ban on gays’

A HUNTING ban would be as unjust as a 19th-century law banning homosexuality, the chairman of the Countryside Alliance has told the hunting inquiry.

John Jackson said in the past governments had made laws on the basis on uninformed demands from Parliament and the public.

He said that taking away peoples civil freedoms is a very serious social consequence, setting a dangerous precedent for the civil liberties of all minority groups.

Mr Jackson welcomed suggestions by the Middle Way group of MPs who have called for independent regulation of hunting.
