IB plans more accurate milk figures
By Farmers Weekly staff
MONTHLY milk production figures should be more accurate if proposals put forward by milk purchasers and Intervention Board officials are adopted.
Last weeks meeting follows complaints that producers can be misled by IB figures supplied by milk companies particularly towards the end of the milk year.
Jim Begg of the Dairy Industry Federation, instigated the meeting after National Farmers Union complaints.
He said: We acknowledge farmers need the best information (on milk output), particularly at the end of the quota year and will do all we can to ensure figures are as accurate as can be.
Latest IB figures show UK production is now 3.5% or 90 million litres below profile after just two months of the current milk year.
Quota prices have edged back with leasing now about 3.65ppl and sales at 17.2ppl for 4% supplies.
