Illegal immigrant crackdown on way

A GOVERNMENT crackdown on illegal immigrants working in the food and farming industry is being prepared.

The Home Office is to launch a campaign of tough new measures, including high profile prosecutions of employers who use illegal labour and "hit squads" to swoop on premises.

About 10,000 foreign workers, mainly from eastern Europe, are thought to be employed illegally in East Anglia alone, predominantly on the farms and processing factories of West Norfolk and the Fens.

Some of them are recruited by "rogue" gangmasters who contract to provide labour for employers and overlook where the workers come from and ignore the poor conditions in which they work. &#42
