&#8226 SALES of organic food in the UK almost trebled between 1992 and 1997, providing an estimated value for organic produce of £260m this year.

Meat and dairy products led the way, expanding by 189% and 250% in value, according to the Mintel survey published this week. The report predicts a further 88% growth in the organic market between now and 2001 to reach a market value of £490m.
