IN BRIEF

&#8226 STRONG, positive health messages promoting beef, pork and lamb will be seen by the public across the country in a new poster campaign launched by the Meat and Livestock Commission this week.

The range of vitamins, minerals, iron and protein provided by lean red meat will feature on more than 3,000 roadside billboards.

&#8226 THE deadline for applications to switch arable aid status from one field to another for husbandry reasons has been extended.

But the new closing date has not yet been announced, MAFFs south-west deputy director Ian Hewitt told Devon NFU executive.

&#8226 MEAT and Livestock Commission levies should be frozen for the coming year, the three strategy councils have recommended.

Although the final decision lies with the MLC commissioners, the sheep, pig and beef strategy councils believe, given the fragile state of Britains livestock industry, that no increase in levies can be sought.
