&#8226 LUTON-BASED national fast food retailer Fresh Connection, which operates 58 Don Miller retail outlets, has switched from Dutch to British suppliers for all its pork products.

The decision, according to managing director David Holliday, was a response to the recent "Put British Pork on your Fork" campaign. The firm, which supplies sandwiches, baguettes and pizzas and has an annual turnover in excess of £9m, now intends to review all areas of food supply.

&#8226 MAFFS current estimate of the cost of the BSE crisis is £4.6bn over the period 1996/97 to 2001/02. According to junior farm minister Jeff Rooker, about 45% of the total will be reimbursed by the EU. &#42
