uPRODUCERS claiming suckler cow premium must now follow a new procedure when replacing animals, says MAFF. They must notify their local regional service centre in writing within 10 working days of the replacement or EU rules will require a penalty to be imposed. Replacement must take place within 20 days of the claimed animals death or departure from the herd or before the end of the retention period, whichever is sooner. Replacements must be entered in the herd register.
uAGROLON, the UKs largest exporter of seed potatoes, has moved its British production base to Agrico UKs site at Castleton of Eassie in Angus. Matutano, parent company of Agrolon, has already been marketing Agricos varieties in Spain for the past 30 years. The partnership, which comes into effect with the 2001 crop, will jointly market more than 60,000t of British grown seed potatoes. *
