Indian Tea Board futures trading?
THE Indian Tea Board is exploring the possibility of setting up an exchange of futures contracts in the commodity.
A study is to be carried out to find out whether the exchange should be purely domestic or international.
The board is keen to create the exchange because it wants operators to be armed with a better pricing mechanism.
But the board admits that much work will have to be done on the rationalisation of varieties and qualities of tea before the commodity lends itself to trading.
Calcutta has been put forward as a potential centre of operations but Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, is cited as another possible location.
