Indonesian farmers attack golf courses

INDONESIAN farmers have been vandalising golf courses to reclaim land they say was taken from them for meagre amounts of compensation.

Several courses near the capital, Jakarta, have been attacked by farmers wielding spades and shovels and carving slogans in the turf.

The farmers claim they were forced to accept compensation 25 times below the market rate during the rein of disgraced president Suharto, who was expelled five weeks ago.
