Integration of Scottish environmental schemes rejected

SCOTTISH agriculture has rejected proposals for an integrated series of agri-environment schemes for farming, in line with European Union (EU) farm policy ideas.

Consultation on the proposals officially closed at the end of last month, but The Scotsman says it is clear that a lot of tough talking is on the cards before these get to the European Commission consideration stage.

The Scottish National Farmers Union says the proposals are discriminatory against smaller farmers in less favoured areas and rejects the suggestion that the organic aid and Scottish Natural Heritage schemes should be included.

The Scottish Agricultural College seriously questioned the proposals logic.
