Italians order British beef
BRITISH beef may soon be a familiar sight once again in Italian shops and restaurants, with new orders coming in since the European Union beef ban was lifted.
MLC exports director Terry Lee said orders had recently been secured in what was once a major market for high-quality British beef.
Speaking to Radio 4s Farming Today programme he said: “We have now secured the first orders from Italy, and believe British beef will be in Italy by end of the week
“This is a substantial coup as Italy is a prime market for the high-quality beef Britain produces.
“Italy has a shorter memory and doesnt hold grudges, as perhaps Germany does, so well get back sooner rather that later.
Italy was the biggest importer of six to 30-month-old cattle before the BSE ban.
