Japanese superweed threatens Britain
THE Japanese Knotweed is threatening to put a stranglehold on the British countryside by cross-breeding with another invader, the Giant Knotweed.
Dr Michelle Hollingsworth , a scientist from the Edinburgh-based Royal Botanic Garden, told a conference that the hybrid plant is highly invasive. It is illegal knowingly to introduce Japanese Knotweed to the wild in Britain.
