Keep em coming in…

IN the first five days of our joint campaign with the Livestock Auctioneers Association support has flooded in from readers. They have signed our letter addressed to Lord Whitty, junior DEFRA minister and the man charged with reforming the food chain.

But even though the campaign has struck a chord with readers, we need you to keep your letters and e-mails coming in. Remember, by registering your support you will be doing your bit to save markets up and down the country.

Peter Kingwill, chairman of the LAA, said his organisation had received lots of positive comments about the initiative.

"I am sure the majority of farmers want to see their local livestock market open. We are currently negotiating with government and although no time-scale has been set, we have our fingers crossed that markets for cattle and slaughter sheep will reopen in February." &#42
