Kellywell herd on the move

CUMBRIAN Holstein breeder David Robinson drew strong local support at the dispersal of his noted Kellywell herd but it was the longest travelled purchasers who took the two highest priced lots back to Essex at 8200gns and 4100gns.

Heading for Designer Holsteins at Ingatestone was Kellywell Black Tulip and Kellywell Blackstar Lulu. The 10-month-old Black Tulip led the sale sheets. Shes by Margene Blackstar Fred and her dam, the Mason-sired Emerald-Acres-SA T-Maggie, is from the Emerald-Acres Tammy family.

There is plenty of milk behind this heifer calf. Her dam gave 13,671kg as a heifer and her grand-dam, by Leadman, topped 15,500kg in her second lactation.

Sharing the wagon home was Kellywell Blackstar Lulu, a third calver due in October to Jed. She gave 9250kg with her second calf and is out of the 10,000kg cow Primsland Jet S Lulu. Her grad-dam was McCallum Starbuck Lulu that bred so many good cattle in Chris Harts Crudwell herd.

Designer Holsteins also invested 2400gns in the 10-month-old Kellywell Red Storm Radiance, who is out of the imported cow Holywell Alta C Radiance which made 2900gns.

Alta C Radiance, a VG87 second calver by Boulet Charles, was one of several purchases by Ulster breeder Gerry ODonnell, who is re-stocking his Rossigh herd after a brucellosis breakdown.

Joining her was the brood cow Kellywell Aerostar Peggy at 3300gns. Her daughter, the calved heifer Kellywell Mascot Peggy, made 2650gns to local dairy farmer Anthony Broughs Tallent herd.

When Snow-N Denises Dellia features in a pedigree its sure to create interest, helping put a price tag of 3600gns on Heartbeat Dory Delia, a 10-month-old calf by Margene Blackstar Fred and out of the 12,478kg heifer Regancrest Broker Dory. She was bought by a local par-tnership trading as the Dory Delia Syndicate. (N&B with H&H) &#42
