Kenyan coffee market struggles

A MIXTURE of adverse weather, poor infrastructure and bad management has taken its toll on Kenyas coffee market, according to the Financial Times.

This years coffee crop is expected to come in at 70,000 tonnes against 130,000 tonnes a decade ago.

But large Latin American harvests have pushed down values and the Nairobi Coffee Exchange is looking to start a futures trading system to secure better prices.

The FT has a pessimistic view of the exchanges chances of success.
