Labours Wales plea
LABOUR backbench MPs have tabled a motion calling on government to provide more cash for Welsh farmers.
The motion notes that seven out of 10 farmers in Wales earn less than £10,000 a year. And it calls on farm minister, Jack Cunningham, to look for extra aid within the spending budget.
It is one of three tabled in the past week calling on Dr Cunningham to release extra funding for farmers. Lib-Dem farm spokesman, Charles Kennedy, said farmers faced financial difficulties caused by the BSE crisis, the strength of sterling and the revaluations of the green £, which had cut CAP payments to producers by more than 15% in the past year. *
