Leaf spot threat to barley in north
By FW staff
EXPERTS are warning growers in Scotland and the north of England that leaf spotting in spring barley could rocket after recent rain.
“The ramularia risk is now very high,” says CSC Cropcare technical director Keith Dawson. “We had rain over the whole of Scotland at the weekend.”
High winds have kept sprayers at bay and many spring barleys are already at awns emerging.
But crop potential is generally good and a strobilurin/triazole mix should go on as soon as possible, says Mr Dawson.
