Letter-writers spell out GM doubts

THE idea that a sane person would trust the scientists, especially if encouraged to by the ministry of agriculture, is “almost beyond belief”, according to one letter writer to The Times.

Scientists get a familiar castigation. They are identified as recommending the use of antibiotics and hormones in the dairy industry. They are also identified as supporting the use of herbicides and pesticides.

Another contributor to The Times asks whether bees can be alerted to the threat from genetically modified (GM) crops. On a more serious note, he suggests isolation of GM research cannot be guaranteed.
