prayer book will

boost show funds

An illustrated book of favourite

Radnorshire prayers is helping

to boost the shows funds

SHOWGOERS will get the chance to boost the events funds by buying a limited edition book. The Four Graces is an anthology of favourite prayers selected by people who live and work in Radnorshire, and is illustrated by Marcia Gibson-Watt, the wife of the show president. Only 4000 copies have been printed. They sell at £20 each, with half the money going to Radnorshires featured county appeal.

By mid-June the publication had contributed over £20,000 towards the cost of the showgrounds new livestock complex.

Penelope Bourdillon, wife of Powyss then Lord Lieutenant, approached Mrs Gibson-Watt, with the idea of marking the Millennium show by combining drawings of the 63 churches in Radnorshire with a collection of prayers.

The artist had already done miniatures of 40, but all had been sold or given away. Fortunately she had photographic transparencies of 17, but that still left her with the task of completing 46 new pictures in a year.

This was a big challenge for the London-born graphic artist who spent a year as a Laura Ashley wallpaper designer, but now has a studio above the familys garage.

"It has been a joy to make a practical contribution to the financial success of the Royal Welsh in the year when my husband is president, and my adopted county Radnorshire is being featured."

Marcia Gibson-Watt illustrated The Four Graces, an anthology of favourite prayers that will be on sale at the show, with half the proceeds going to the featured county appeal.
