Lims sell to all types of buyer

UNHALTERED Limousin females were sought by both pedigree and commercial cattle buyers at a sale of 100 head at Carlisle where prices reached 2700gns.

Although the average for cows was slightly down on the same sale last year, in-calf and suckling heifers rose by £230 to level at £1364.

Home breeding paid off for Oswestry, Shropshire, breeder T A Ellis when his calved heifer Tanat Larissa led the trade at 2700gns. By the Filip son Tanat Izack and out of a home-bred cow by Rake Terence, this smart heifer had a good bull calf at foot by the Cannon son Ronick Hawk and was in-calf to him again for December. Buyers were W L and J A Forrester, Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Several buyers had travelled long distances and among them were A C and B M Morgan who took the next two highest priced lots back to their herd at Ponttardulais, Swansea.

They gave 2300gns for A B Hollidays (Penrith) Eden Lydia, a daughter of the Talent-sired Ronick Gains and out of one of the herds senior cows by the good producer of the 1980s, Oakley Politicain.

Lydia was sold with an April born bull calf by well-known high BLUP sire Haltcliffe Hercules.

Messrs Morgan also claimed local breeders S J and RR Broughs Carrock Laura, a served heifer by Scorboro Illusion and due soon to Broadmeadows Cannon. Price was 2300gns.

Tiverton, Devon buyer M Baker made his journey worthwhile paying 2250gns for another from the Elliss consignment. Tanat Jasmine, a calved heifer by a home-bred son of Rake Terence was sold suckling a Ronick Hawk bull calf.

Averages 20 cows £1110, 15 heifers £1364, 28 maiden heifers £621. (Harrison and Hetherington.) &#42
