British agriculture is in the greatest period of opportunity for years, according to DEFRA secretary Hilary Benn.
In an exclusive interview with Farmers Weekly at the 2009 Oxford Farming Conference, Mr Benn said farmers needed to consider how they were going to meet the needs of today whilst thinking about how farming practices needed to change in future.
“There is no choice between the environment or production,” Mr Benn said.
“This is a time of great opportunity and farmers need to put their best face forward and show why British agriculture matters.”
