Little evidence of spring rush
FEARS that the last quarter of the year would bring more farms to the market have been scuppered by market evidence, which suggests that spring sales will be few and far between.
"My view is that if a flood of farms were preparing to hit the market, we would all be rushing around trying to put them together," said Jim Bryant of Bidwells in Cambridge. "None of us is.
"This year was light on acres and I would expect a little more next year, but on a supply and demand basis good quality land and farms are expected to hold in value."
Some residential markets have become a little tricky, say agents, but bricks, mortar and soil remain an attractive investment.
Farmers are clearly in evidence as buyers. "There is still a lot of interest in bare land," says James Crawford at Knight Frank. "Despite the prophets of doom and gloom there is still plenty of activity around on the farmland front and we are feeling quite positive." *
