Longthorp elected as NPA chairman
By FWi staff
YORKSHIRE farmer Richard Longthorp has been elected as the new chairman of the National Pig Association.
Mr Longthorp, known as vigorous campaigner on behalf of grassroots pig farmers, will take over in the New Year.
He runs the family business with his wife, farming outdoor breeding sows and arable crops.
Mr Longthorp replaces James Black, who will remain on the NPA board. Mr Black said he had presided over a difficult time, but was optimistic for the future.
“In spite of all the difficulties encountered by the pig industry this year as a result of foot-and-mouth disease, it looks like the industry is starting to return to normality,” he said.
“I wish Richard and his team every success for the future in continuing to build upon the NPAs achievements.”
