M&S to tighten up on dairying
MARKS AND SPENCER (M&S) is to target dairy farmers in a move to tighten up production standards.
Company chiefs have held talks with Scottish dairy companies in a bid to draw up producer protocols which will be used throughout the country. It already has a range of farmer and grower protocols covering fresh fruit and vegetables, beef, lamb, pig meat and poultry.
The chain will increase its sponsorship for the dairy sector in the companys three-year farm show support programme, designed to show farmers and growers its commitment to British produce.
Chris Gilbert-Wood, M&S agriculture and livestock manager, denied suggestions that the company planned to buy raw food materials from abroad because of Sterlings strength.
