Madonna buys West Country sport estate?

ASHCOMBE has been sold and Madonna is the buyer, according to media reports.

The singer and her British film director husband Guy Ritchie are being widely mooted as the new owners of the 1132-acre sporting estate near Tollard Royal, on the Wilts/Dorset border.

Selling agent FPDSavills, while confirming a deal has gone through, is still refusing to name names, a policy the firm says it strictly adheres to. "I am not sure where the press got its information from, but it wasnt us," reiterated a spokesman.

All the London company will say is that the purchaser is an "overseas company that intends to use the property for leisure and corporate entertainment". However, the spokesman admitted it wouldnt be "inconceivable" that a celebrity such as Madonna would choose to acquire a property in such a way.

With an asking price of £9m, Ashcombe was no bargain. But for those whose pockets are not so deeply lined Savills has just released another substantial estate, although it will mean heading significantly north of the border.

Ten times the size of Ashcombe and, with a tag of £2.5m, less than one third the price, Cambusmore, 45 miles north of Inverness, looks to be much better value if distance from London is not a problem.

Included is a 10-bedroomed lodge overlooking the Loch Fleet estuary, 16 other dwellings, a wide range of sporting opportunities, 1000 acres of commercial woodland, more than 10,000 acres of grazing land, and all the privacy a pop star could possibly need. &#42
