MAFF-man may quit for private sector
RICHARD Packer, permanent secretary at MAFF, could be the first senior official since the election to pack his bags for fresh pastures in the private sector, speculates Observer in the Financial Times
It seems Packer is “anything but top dog in the eyes of Jack Cunningham”, who is secretary of state at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), the column says.
It concludes that the word in the ministry is that Packer, 53, could emerge
“with an amount of sticky stuff on his boots” from the current independent
inquiry into BSE.
