MAFF to set new slaughter premium rules

THE Ministry of Agriculture is to send out new guidelines outlining the main provisions and requirements of the new slaughter premium scheme to cattle producers in England.

Producers who have reared cattle for at least two months will be eligible for a premium of Euro27 (£16.87 at todays Euro rate) for adult cattle and Euro17 (£10.62) for calves aged between one and seven months in 2002 when they slaughtered.

More detailed information, including claim forms, will be distributed to all cattle keepers as soon as possible, and legislation will be laid before Parliament later, says MAFF.
