MAFFsurveys pig herd size

MAFF is to conduct an additional survey next week to give an up-to- date picture of the size of the national pig herd.

Responding to requests from industry leaders, junior farm minister Lord Donoughue said the government understood that, before making long-term decisions, pig producers had to know how the recent crisis had affected national pig numbers.

"Industry leaders have asked us to undertake this survey to help the industry and I am pleased that my statisticians have been able to organise it for Mar 29. I urge all producers who receive a form to complete and return it as soon as possible so we are able to announce results at an early stage," he said. &#42
