Market needs No 1
END market requirement should be growers number one concern when choosing potato varieties, says the British Potato Council.
Results of its grower seed satisfaction survey suggest that is not always the case. "Only 41% of growers choose variety according to customer needs. We feel this should be nearer 100%," said seed manager, Joanne Kemp. "Growers should not be growing a variety without the end market in mind."
The survey sets a benchmark for seed industry performance, and BPC plans to repeat it and assess any changes in 2001.
