Maximising the benefits of CTS
THE Cattle Tracing System should be developed into a central computer database which breed societies, farm assurance schemes and government departments could access for information, according to a new report.
The livestock industry could get more out of the Cattle Tracing System (CTS) by increasing its value to farmers and other users, says the Future Development Strategy, drawn up by the NFU in conjunction with the Scottish NFU, Livestock Auctioneers Association and the Meat and Livestock Commission.
It recommends the long term objective should be to develop a central computer data base which could hold information needed by users other than the British Cattle Movement Service. The aim would be for producers to have only to supply key information once.
The report suggests that enhancements to the CTS would help reduce costs, paperwork, errors and administration time as well as providing benefits such as livestock improvement data. *
