Mercosur talks raise anxieties
STRONG concerns are likely to be voiced about plans to begin talks on a free trade agreement with Mercosur trading group countries when European Union farm ministers meet today (Monday).
The French fear farm prices would fall sharply under a free trade pact with the Latin American countries. Germany is also sceptical about the benefits of a deal.
The French want to discuss the issue even though the European Commission is yet to organised a forum for the talks.
