Micro-credit bank joins forces
with Monsanto

A BANK which specialises in lending small tranches of money to poor people in India is joining forces with Monsanto to set up an agricultural research centre in Bangladesh.

The Grameen Bank is joining up with the US life sciences giant in the venture which will bring the latest technological advances to the countrys agricultural system.

The two companies hope it will produce solutions that are relevant to a country with a subsistence culture. Work will take place on genetic engineering aimed at producing more resilient crops and the centre will also offer general agricultural know-how.
