Milk and the seasonality reduction
NEIL DAVIDSON of Express Dairies is reported to have said that, under the Milk Marketing Board, farmers would be getting 3ppl more for milk, but this would
be due to the artificiality of the system.
However, he failed to point out that the dairies would be paying another 3p extra for the premium rate daily
milk; that means a saving to him of 6ppl.
There is nothing very artificial about that!
He has also been paying consultants to tell him that there is more profit in spring-produced milk than there should be.
Considering that in the spring we have to pay for our fertilizers, sprays, vaccines and silage-making, as well
as doing repairs and improvements, I don`t know where they got that idea from.
Increase the seasonability deduction by more than the current 3p, and we could be talking straws and camels backs.
