Milk output still climbing

FIGURES released by the Intervention Board this afternoon (Thursday) show milk output is continuing to climb – fuelling fears that there is nothing dairy farmers can do to avoid a hefty super-levy bill this year.

IB officials estimate milk deliveries to selected purchasers for the week ended 17 January to be 249,332,289 litres – more than 1.5 million litres higher than the previous week.

With only two weeks left to the end of January, it looks increasingly certain that milk output will be over target this month unless drastic action is taken.

Almost 63% of Januarys quota was filled with only 54% of the month gone.
