Milk quota gamblers? No
THERE is no evidence to support allegations of speculation in milk quotas, according to junior farm minister Michael Jack.
His statement followed rumours that investors ranging from Manchester United football club to snooker star Steve Davis have been speculating in milk quotas.
Replying to a written Commons question asking what he was doing to prevent speculators exploiting the quota shortage, Mr Jack said milk quota could be leased only between producers who are registered with the Intervention Board.
As for quota purchases they could be made only by producers actively involved in milk production or by those who permanently acquired land to which milk quota was attached.
