Mill to sell non-GM feed and hold cost

AN animal feed mill in Devon is to start producing rations with non-GM ingredients only, without increasing prices.

Bill Harper of Harpers Home Mix at Holsworthy, made the decision because more and more dairy and meat companies are insisting that farms supplying them use GM-free diets.

"Being the first feed mill in the south west to take this stand has some problems because the rules are not yet fully defined. But we are working closely with Trading Standards staff to ensure our products are correctly labelled."

He has been able to hold prices because grain, sugar beet and some protein prices have been "favourable", and the company will absorb the rest of the extra cost. &#42
