Ministers plan affordable rural homes
THE government is set to unveil plans for thousands of new homes for country people, according to front-page story in the Independent.
Ministers will announce within the next 10 days proposals for subsidised housing for low-income families in villages and rural areas, claims the paper.
The plans are contained within a leaked copy of the Rural White Paper, expected to be formally published by the government in November.
It is thought that the idea to build cheaper houses will make it more affordable for local young people and families to buy their own homes in rural areas.
But Conservative MPs have questioned whether village shops and public services would be able to cope if thousands of new homes were built.
