Monsanto boss speaks to Greenpeace
ROBERT Shapiro, the chairman of the biotechnology giant Monsanto, will be one of the speakers of the Greenpeace business conference in London this week.
His speech comes as the company, increasingly concerned about the success of the campaign against GM food, tries to improve its relations with environmentalists.
GM technology is the subject of a debate in a special 28-page science guide produced by the Financial Times.
It concludes that anyone who believes that technology can, on its own, solve the problems of world hunger is likely to be disappointed.
A doctor writing in The Guardian claims that Monsantos aim to incorporate plastic monomers plants would produce carcinogenic compounds.
