Montana cattle embryos for Yorkshire

THE cattle breeding methods of the Leachman family of Billings, Montana are being imported to Britain to improve livestock.

The Yorkshire-based Beef Improvement Group (BIG) has just imported 100 Leachman embryos and taken on the European franchise for one of its new “designer” breeds, the Stabiliser Mark Two Composite.

BIG director Richard Guller said there was interest from calf producers throughout England who were looking for the smaller, more compact females being genetically selected by the Leachmans. BIG planned to cross Stabiliser females with progeny from its own Charolais high-track genetic improvement trials.
