More resources needed for ‘misunderstood’ industry

FARMERS are becoming “increasingly misunderstood”, according to a profile on Willie Davidson, who is president of the Dumfries and Stewartry area of the National Farmers Union of Scotland.

Talking to The Scotsman, Davidson said agriculture needs an injection of resources both human and financial. He talks about working with supermarkets to spread the message and prescribes farm visits as a valuable tool.

Davidson farms 809.4ha (2,000 acres) at the tenanted hill and low-ground unitof Poldean, near Moffat, Dumfriesshire. He was the first in his area to introduce French Saler cattle and pioneered the all-terrain vehicle as a tool for shepherding.
