MPs’ verdict on hunt ban today
THE Middle Way cross-party group of MPs publishes its recommendations of
the governments inquiry on hunting with dogs on Tuesday (22 February).
This inquiry looks at how a ban might be implemented, and the consequences
of a ban.
The Middle Way group seeks a consensus and calls for an independent
hunting authority should have statutory powers to enforce a code of
Powers would include penalties ranging from a caution to revocation of
hunting licence, and perhaps legal penalties on top of that.
The group does not think a voluntary code will be sufficient.
Rural lifestyle campaign the Countryside Alliance welcomed some of the
proposals, and said there were already some codes of conduct in place.
But the League Against Cruel Sports dismissed the suggestions as miles wide of the mark and a ruse to delay a ban on hunting.
