National Apple Day call for pesticide ban

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners will today (Wednesday) mark national Apple Day with a call for a ban on the use of harmful pesticides in fruit growing.

Friends of the Earth Scotland claimed analysis of Government research showed that 90% of apples are contaminated with pesticides, with samples containing as many as five different types.

The group called for more organic farming.
