National Trust boosts farm potential

THE National Trust – which has 1100 tenants on 142,692ha (360,000 acres) – has allocated 500,000 for schemes to boost the economic potential of its farms.

The money is part of a 1.1 million injection to boost rural communities. It comes less than a year after the trust gave 600,000 for similar projects.

Peter Nixon, the trusts director of estates, said: “Many of our tenant farmers, especially those with livestock in up-land areas, face real financial difficulties.

“This package will help out farm tenants address these difficulties and to plan a long term sustainable future.”
