Net margin boost

BOOSTING wheat net margins for all arable clients by £50/ha (£20/acre) is the goal set by Banks Agriculture agronomists this season. A host of initiatives are planned to help growers make the improvement.

"We wanted to help growers in these hard times and boosting net farm margin by 2000p an acre in the year 2000 had a nice sound to it," says director of crop protection Steve Wolff.

Key to the Wheat 2000 initiative will be reduced cultivations, backed by detailed advice on the changes to variety, seed treatment, nutrition and weed control that are needed to realise its full potential. Better marketing strategies will also feature.

"This is a very exciting time technically. There are a lot of tools coming through to help growers unlock the potential of reduced cultivations and earlier drilling," says Mr Wolff.

As an added incentive, Banks Agricultures 10 advisory teams will compete to achieve the best net margin boost on an adopted farm. &#42
