New fungicides not necessarily good
GROWERS should be wary of merchant agronomists recommending new fungicides which do not offer top performance, says ADAS.
"Everything that is new is not necessarily good," warns principal consultant Andrew Wells.
For example, triazoles released in recent years such as Granit (bromuconazole), Graphic, (fenbuconazole + propiconazole), Juggler (tetraconazole) and Voodoo (chlorothalonil + tetraconazole) all fail to match the performance of leading triazoles.
Use of such products should be limited to low risk situations and only when the price justifies a departure from the most effective active ingredient, he says. *
